Galaxy Rotation Curves Disfavor Traditional and Self-interacting Dark Matter Halos, Preferring a Disk Component or Einasto Function

چکیده

We use the galaxy rotation curves in SPARC database to compare 9 different dark matter and modified gravity models on an equal footing, paying special attention stellar mass-to-light ratios. three non-interacting models, a self interacting DM (SIDM) model, two hadronically (HIDM) Newtonian dynamics type models: MOND, Radial Acceleration Relation (RAR) maximal-disk model. The with DM-gas interactions generate disky component matter, which significantly improves fits compared all other except Einasto halo; MOND-type give worse fits.

Dark Matter Halos and Disk Rotation Curves

Cosmological N–body simulations have revealed a remarkable similarity in the structure of dark matter halos formed in hierarchically clustering universes. Regardless of halo mass, cosmological parameters, and power spectrum of initial density fluctuations, the spherically averaged density profiles of dark matter halos have a universal shape. The logarithmic slope of this profile is shallower th...

Fitting Galaxy Rotation Curves Without Dark Matter

The notion is presented that fitting galaxy rotation curves is possible without the invocation of dark matter. Equations of motion similar to those used to describe the internal motions of terrestrial weather systems are applied to the rotation curves of galaxies. However, due to the four-dimensional nature of the equations, additional terms arise. One of these additional terms is particularly ...

Self-Interacting Cold Dark Matter Halos

The evolution of halos consisting of weakly self-interacting dark matter particles is summarized. The halos initially contain a central density cusp as predicted by cosmological models. Weak self-interaction leads to the formation of an isothermal, low-density core which is in agreement with published data on the rotation curves of dwarf galaxies. However, subsequently, core collapse leads to a...

Dwarf Galaxy Rotation Curves and the Core Problem of Dark Matter Halos

The standard cold dark matter (CDM) model has recently been challenged by the claim that dwarf galaxies have dark matter halos with constant density cores, whereas CDM predicts halos with steeply cusped density distributions. Consequently, numerous alternative dark matter candidates have recently been proposed. In this paper, we scrutinize the observational evidence for the incongruity between ...

Formation and Evolution of Self-Interacting Dark Matter Halos

In the standard cold dark matter (CDM) theory of cosmic structure formation, CDM particles are assumed to be collisionless. The actual identity and microscopic nature of CDM is still unknown, however. It is important, therefore, to explore the consequences of varying this underlying assumption about CDM in the hope that astronomical observations can be used to place meaningful constraints. It h...
